The Ultimate in Sports Surfaces

If you are planning to build a multi-sport facility, Courtstall Services will be able to provide you with all the advice and help you need. However the information on this site may answer some of th queries you already have.

Area of Facility
The size of playing area is governed by the run-off required by the largest playing area. For example, on a Netball court of 100’ x 50’, a minimum of 5’ side run and 7’ behind the posts is required. An adopted size of 114’ x 60’ will accommodate most sports adequately.

Orientation
If the sports to be played are affected by low sun, the facility should be orientated approximately North-South.

Planning Permission
Planning permission is required if, by constructing the facility, you change the use of the land, for example, from agricultural to recreational use. In addition, most Local Authorities require planning permission for permanent fencing over 2m high and some even require it for a change of surface, for instance, from grass to acrylic.

Range of Surfaces
Courtstall has a full range of popular surfaces, designed to match your precise requirements:

Porous Modified Macadam

A Range of Artificial Grasses

Acrylic, Highly Cushioned Acrylic and a Grand Slam Acrylic

Fencing systems
Whilst heavy duty chain link netting is adequate for Netball and Basketball, Five-a-side Football is very tough an the netting and weldmesh is essential. The finish can be galvanised and/or plastic coated. Posts can be either angle iron, tubular or rolled hollow section, in a variety of finishes. Polyester powder coated or galvanised weldmesh is substantial enough to double as a rebound facility and has both aesthetic and visibility advantages.

Rebound Facility
Five-A-Side football requires a rebound facility of 1.2m high. It must be well supported and consist of top quality boarding such as phenolic filmed plywood with sealed edges. Treated timber rails are an economical alternative and give a more rustic appearance. Pitch dividers maximise the use of larger areas and can therefore increase letting fees.

Floodlighting
A variety of floodlighting systems are avaliable to suit different height restrictions which avoid potential planning difficulties. Some lamps give lower capital costs, others lower running costs and greater efficiency. Dual lighting levels can give economies in the long- term. 200 lux is adequate for large ball sports, whereas a fast, small ball sport such as Tennis, requires 400 lux for play at club level. Switching can be by photoelectric cell, coin or token meters, or even by an electronic pay-card.

Maintenance
Courtstall Services is happy to advise on the level of maintenance required to keep your surface in peak condition and to maximise the value of your investment.
